Every board tells Edu’s story

Edu Shapes is a passion fuelled project run by Eduardo Garcia. If there is something to know about a surfboard, Edu knows it.

Edu grew up a small town boy, and traded the quiet of a countryside village for the rhythm of waves on the coast. Twenty years ago he stepped into surfboard manufacturing, not just as a craft but as a passion, and it has not let go of him since.

The journey ran from novice surfer to builder and seller of surfboards. Along the way he collaborated with some of the finest international shapers in the business, absorbing their expertise and refining his own. He went on to lead factory operations as a CEO, founding ORG Surfboards, known for developing custom quivers of more than one hundred boards per athlete, and later Portugal Surf Factory.

What sets Edu Shapes apart is not just craftsmanship but testing. Edu is one of the few shapers who rigorously surfs his own boards in every kind of condition, fine tuning small wave designs for weak summer days and pushing the limits in formidable giants like Nazare. When a board carries his signature, he has felt what it can do.

Edu Shapes is not only about building boards. It is about forging connections and sharing the pure joy of riding waves. Every wave tells a story, and every board is built to be part of one.

Building surfboards for big waves

Edu sat down with the Big Wave Surf Channel to talk through the story behind Edu Shapes: how a small town kid ended up shaping for some of the heaviest water in the world, what goes into a board built for Nazare, and why he still tests every design himself.

It is the clearest look you will get at how these boards are made, and at the thinking that shapes them.

Surf something shaped for you
